Vital But Invisible

(2024-ongoing)

"Vital but Invisible" is an ongoing documentary project that aims to spotlight the often-overlooked care economy and the essential role of caregivers, which is crucial for society's maintenance but is often undervalued, unappreciated, and disproportionately borne by women.

According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), women around the world perform 76.2% of all unpaid care work, spending 3.2 times more time on caregiving activities than men. The report further indicates that 606 million working-age women (21.7%) engage in full-time unpaid care work, compared to only 41 million men (1.5%), reinforcing gender inequality.

This is a global issue that will become even more significant due to the aging world population. However, the situation is particularly challenging in Venezuela, where the lack of accessible and quality care systems—such as daycare and educational facilities—poses significant challenges.

"Vital but Invisible" honors the relentless efforts of caregivers while serving as a call to action for society to recognize and value this essential work. By illuminating the significance of the care economy, the project aims to inspire visibility and prompt decision-makers to implement solutions that acknowledge, reduce, redistribute, and reward caregiving contributions.
