ABOUT
Marina Calderon is a Brazilian-born photojournalist and visual storyteller currently based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Her work explores how people live and relate to the environments they inhabit. With a background in law and a strong commitment to human rights, her practice weaves together themes of gender, territory, identity, and the subtle complexities of everyday life — often shaped by broader political, social, and environmental forces.
Originally from Rio de Janeiro, Marina began her career assisting in fashion and commercial photography before transitioning into photojournalism and long-term documentary projects. She holds a Master’s in Professional Photography from IED Madrid, where she graduated with honors, and a Law degree from PUC-Rio.
Her work has been featured in publications such as The Washington Post, El País, Bloomberg, among others, and she has collaborated with humanitarian organizations including UNHCR, DG ECHO, and Oxfam. In 2024, she participated in the Eddie Adams Workshop, the New York Times Portfolio Review, and the VII Foundation Seminar for South and Central America. She was also shortlisted for the Marilyn Stafford FotoReportage Award and the Women Street Photographers Artist Residency.
She is a member of Women Photograph.
